Flood-related concerns are increasing in several parts of India as heavy monsoon rainfall continues to affect different regions. On August 30, the India Meteorological Department warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall possible in Odisha. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on areas vulnerable to flash floods.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Mandakini River overflowed in Chitrakoot, creating a flood-like situation in several low-lying areas. The district administration placed the region on high alert, while drones are being used to monitor water levels and affected locations. NDRF and SDRF teams have also been deployed as a precautionary measure.
The weather system is also affecting eastern and northeastern India. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Gangetic West Bengal. Residents in vulnerable locations have been advised to remain alert and follow instructions from local authorities.
Meanwhile, weather officials continue to monitor rainfall patterns and river levels. People living near rivers, low-lying areas and flood-prone zones are being urged to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
With the monsoon remaining active in several regions, authorities are maintaining preparedness for possible flooding, waterlogging and transport disruptions.
