Luis Hernandez latest news: American mixed martial artist Luis Hernandez is making headlines after a rapid victory in his UFC debut at UFC Vegas 121 in Las Vegas. Hernandez defeated Sedriques Dumas by guillotine choke in just 57 seconds, producing a memorable start to his UFC career.
The fight took place on September 26, 2026, at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hernandez had accepted the bout on only two days’ notice after the original opponent situation changed.
Luis Hernandez UFC Debut
Hernandez entered the UFC following his appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series earlier in September. On September 15, he defeated Hugo Guillon by second-round submission and earned a UFC contract. The official UFC website lists his Contender Series victory among his recent fights.
Less than two weeks later, Hernandez received an opportunity to make his UFC debut.
Despite the extremely short preparation period, he accepted the matchup against Sedriques Dumas and competed on the UFC Vegas 121 card.
Luis Hernandez vs Sedriques Dumas
The fight began quickly, with Hernandez applying pressure from the opening seconds.
Hernandez landed a punch that hurt Dumas before moving into a clinch situation. He eventually secured a guillotine choke and forced Dumas to submit.
The official result came after only 57 seconds of the first round, giving Hernandez his first UFC victory.
The result also continued a remarkable run for Hernandez, who had already secured a UFC contract after his Contender Series appearance.
Luis Hernandez Record
Following the victory over Dumas, Hernandez moved to 9-0 as a professional MMA fighter, according to MMA Fighting’s report. The same report notes that all nine of his professional victories have come by stoppage.
That record has quickly made Hernandez a name to watch among UFC fans following the light-heavyweight matchup.
His recent sequence has been particularly notable:
- September 15, 2026: Defeated Hugo Guillon on Dana White’s Contender Series.
- September 15, 2026: Earned a UFC contract.
- September 26, 2026: Made his UFC debut against Sedriques Dumas.
- September 26, 2026: Won by guillotine choke in 57 seconds.
- Current professional record: 9-0, according to MMA Fighting.
Luis Hernandez and His Law-Enforcement Career
Hernandez has attracted additional attention because he also works in law enforcement.
Reports identify him as a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy. Earlier in September, reports said Hernandez remained a full-time deputy while beginning his UFC career.
His combination of professional MMA competition and law-enforcement work has become a recurring part of coverage surrounding his rapid rise.
Two-Day Notice for UFC Fight
One of the notable aspects of the latest Luis Hernandez story is how little preparation time he had for his UFC debut.
Hernandez stepped into the matchup against Dumas on approximately two days’ notice. The late opportunity came after a change to the scheduled bout.
Despite the circumstances, Hernandez completed the fight in less than one minute. Sherdog also reported that he took the fight on two days’ notice and secured the victory with a guillotine choke.
Luis Hernandez’s Fighting Style and Recent Form
Hernandez has demonstrated a finishing-oriented style throughout his professional career. His recent victories have come through submissions and other stoppages rather than judges’ decisions.
At the Contender Series, he submitted Hugo Guillon in the second round. The UFC’s official video archive confirms that Hernandez finished Guillon by submission during Season 10’s sixth episode.
His UFC debut followed a similar pattern, with Hernandez securing another submission finish.
What Comes Next for Luis Hernandez?
Following his successful UFC debut, attention will now turn toward Hernandez’s next fight and how the UFC develops his career.
No subsequent opponent or fight date should be treated as confirmed unless announced by the UFC or Hernandez’s representatives.
For now, his latest result gives him an undefeated professional record and a 1-0 start inside the UFC.
