Denmark vs Portugal Latest News: Denmark and Portugal are meeting in a highly followed UEFA Nations League League A, Group 4 fixture at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. The match is part of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign and has attracted additional attention following Cristiano Ronaldo’s unexpected departure from Portugal’s training camp.
Denmark vs Portugal Match Details
The Denmark vs Portugal fixture is scheduled for October 1, 2026, at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. UEFA lists the match as part of League A, Group 4, with both teams having already played two matches in the competition.
Denmark opened its Nations League campaign with a 3-2 defeat away to Norway before responding with a 2-0 home victory over Wales. Portugal started with a 1-0 win against Wales and then defeated Norway 2-1 in Oslo.
The results put Portugal on six points from two matches before the Denmark fixture, while Denmark had three points. The early Group A4 standings also include Norway and Wales.
Cristiano Ronaldo Leaves Portugal Camp
One of the biggest stories surrounding Denmark vs Portugal is Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the Portuguese national-team camp.
Reuters reported that Ronaldo left the Portugal camp in Copenhagen before the match after a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença. The federation confirmed that the 41-year-old forward had left the squad. Ronaldo said he would explain his reasons at a later time.
The development followed questions about Ronaldo’s role under Portugal coach Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo had been left on the bench during Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway. Jesus acknowledged that Ronaldo had been unhappy about the decision but said he considered the matter resolved.
Jesus subsequently confirmed that Ronaldo would not start against Denmark. Ronaldo then announced his departure from the camp. The Portuguese Football Federation’s disciplinary rules allow for possible suspension if a player leaves national-team duty without permission, although the federation had not publicly announced such a punishment in the reports available at the time.
Portugal’s Form Before the Match
Portugal entered the Denmark vs Portugal match with two wins from two Nations League games. The team defeated Wales 1-0 in its opening fixture before winning 2-1 against Norway.
João Félix scored in both matches, while Gonçalo Ramos scored the winning goal against Norway. Cristiano Ronaldo did not feature in that victory after remaining on the bench.
Portugal is the defending UEFA Nations League champion and is attempting to progress through the new League A format. The 2026/27 competition will send the top two teams from each League A group into the quarterfinals.
Denmark’s Recent Results
Denmark began the competition with a 3-2 loss to Norway but quickly responded against Wales. A Ben Davies own goal and a goal from Gustav Isaksen gave Denmark a 2-0 victory in Copenhagen.
Rasmus Højlund is among Denmark’s key attacking players, while Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Mikkel Damsgaard are also important members of the squad. Earlier reports indicated that Denmark had injury concerns involving Patrick Dorgu and Albert Grønbæk.
Denmark vs Portugal Head-to-Head Record
The two national teams have met numerous times in competitive football. UEFA’s official match information lists Portugal with 11 victories, Denmark with four, and two draws in their recorded head-to-head meetings.
Their most recent competitive meetings came in the 2025 UEFA Nations League quarterfinals. Denmark won the first leg 1-0, while Portugal won the second leg 5-2 after extra time, advancing 5-3 on aggregate.
What to Watch in Denmark vs Portugal
The match is significant for both teams as the Nations League group stage continues. Denmark will look to build on its home win against Wales, while Portugal enters the fixture with two victories and without Ronaldo following his departure from the camp.
The tactical approach of Portugal under Jorge Jesus, Denmark’s attacking threat through Højlund and Isaksen, and the battle for points in Group A4 are among the main storylines surrounding the fixture.
The teams are scheduled to meet again in Lisbon on November 14, 2026, as part of the Nations League league phase.
