The draft electoral roll for Delhi has become a major political and administrative talking point after nearly 47.7 lakh names were excluded from the preliminary list. According to India Today, Delhi has around 1.45 crore voters, making the exercise one of significant importance ahead of future electoral processes.
Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar said individuals whose names are missing from the draft list can seek inclusion by submitting claims through Form 6. The deadline for filing such claims is September 30.
The electoral roll revision is aimed at ensuring that voter records remain accurate and updated. Such exercises can identify duplicate entries, relocated voters and other discrepancies in electoral databases.
However, the scale of the exclusions is likely to attract considerable attention from political parties and civil society groups. Voters who believe their names have been wrongly left out will have an opportunity to provide the necessary documents and request restoration.
Election authorities have urged eligible citizens to check the draft roll and complete the correction process within the prescribed period.
