India’s Private Space Sector Takes Off
India’s private space industry has experienced rapid growth. The country’s private space ecosystem has expanded from a single startup in 2014 to more than 400 companies in 2026, with reported investment reaching about $600 million.
Companies are now working across satellite manufacturing, launch vehicles, propulsion, Earth observation, space-data analytics and orbital-debris monitoring. Government-backed funding initiatives are also helping startups move from research and development toward commercialisation.
The growth of private companies could complement ISRO’s activities and create new opportunities in the international space market.
EOS-05 Strengthens India’s Space Capabilities
The successful GSLV-F17 launch of EOS-05 is another major technology story. ISRO launched the satellite on September 4, and the mission successfully placed the spacecraft into its intended transfer orbit.
The more than 2,300-kilogram satellite is designed for frequent imaging of large areas. Its applications include disaster monitoring, agriculture, forestry and defence.
The mission is particularly important because it demonstrates improvements in India’s ability to deploy heavier payloads using the GSLV platform.
Semiconductor Push Continues
India is making semiconductors a strategic priority. The recently notified Semicon 2.0 programme has a proposed outlay of ₹1.27 lakh crore and covers several parts of the semiconductor value chain.
The programme includes support for chip design, semiconductor fabs, advanced packaging, testing, manufacturing equipment and research. The government wants to create trusted domestic capabilities while reducing vulnerabilities in global technology supply chains.
The country’s semiconductor sector will receive another major platform this month when SEMICON India 2026 takes place in New Delhi from September 17 to 19. The event is expected to bring together government officials, technology companies, researchers and semiconductor-industry leaders.
AI and Technology Regulation
Artificial intelligence is also receiving greater attention from regulators. India’s National Financial Reporting Authority has established a nine-member advisory committee focusing on audit quality, AI, automation, cybersecurity and technology risks.
The move reflects the growing importance of responsible technology use. As businesses introduce AI into financial and operational systems, regulators are increasingly considering questions around cybersecurity, automation, transparency and technology-related risks.
India’s Next Technology Phase
From artificial intelligence and semiconductors to space exploration and deep-tech startups, India’s technology landscape is becoming increasingly diverse. The country’s focus is shifting from being primarily a technology-services destination toward developing its own advanced products, infrastructure and intellectual property.
With continued investment in AI education, chip manufacturing, private space companies and digital infrastructure, technology is expected to remain one of India’s most important growth sectors.
