• Ganga Water Level Creates Fresh Concern in Patna
Patna: The flood situation in Bihar’s capital has become increasingly serious as the Ganga crossed its highest flood mark at Gandhi Ghat on Saturday morning. The rapidly rising water level has raised concerns about low-lying areas of Patna and surrounding communities.
• Ganga Rises Above Highest Flood Level
According to the Water Resources Department, the Ganga reached 50.53 metres at Gandhi Ghat, around one centimetre above the highest flood level. The river’s water level increased by approximately 10 centimetres within four hours, with officials forecasting further rises.
• Several Areas Face Inundation Risk
The rising river has already affected parts of the city. Earlier, floodwater reached several ghats, while cremation grounds were also inundated, creating difficulties for families trying to perform last rites. Low-lying neighbourhoods remain particularly vulnerable as the river continues to rise.
• 33 Rescue Teams Deployed
Authorities have increased preparedness across Bihar. Six NDRF and 27 SDRF teams have been positioned in vulnerable districts and kept ready for rescue and relief operations. Nearly 700 government boats are also operating across affected areas to support movement and evacuation if required.
• Multiple Rivers Above Danger Mark
The flood threat is not limited to the Ganga. Officials reported that the Gandak, Kosi, Budhi Gandak, Punpun and Ghaghra rivers are also flowing above danger levels at various locations. This has increased pressure on district administrations across Bihar.
• Chief Minister Reviews Flood Situation
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas on Friday and reviewed relief and rescue preparations. Officials have been instructed to monitor water levels, identify affected residents and ensure timely delivery of essential supplies.
• Relief Camps and Community Kitchens
District administrations are operating relief camps and community kitchens in affected areas. Authorities have also asked officials to remain available in vulnerable districts and prepare for possible evacuations if water levels continue to rise.
• Residents Asked to Remain Alert
People living near riverbanks and low-lying areas are being advised to follow instructions from local authorities. Residents should avoid unnecessary movement near flooded locations and remain updated on official warnings.

With the Ganga continuing to rise and several other rivers above danger levels, Patna remains on high alert. The coming hours will be important as officials monitor rainfall, river conditions and the possibility of further flooding.
