Binance Exchange News Today: India Compliance Takes Centre Stage

Binance exchange remains a major topic in India’s cryptocurrency market as the platform continues to adapt its procedures for Indian users. The latest developments centre on transaction information, KYC requirements, anti-money-laundering compliance and the reporting framework established by Indian authorities.

In June 2026, Binance introduced additional information requirements for Indian users making crypto deposits and withdrawals. The changes apply particularly to transfers involving another exchange or a self-hosted wallet and are designed to provide greater traceability for cryptocurrency movements.

Binance Deposit and Withdrawal Rules for Indian Users

Under the updated procedures, users receiving crypto into Binance from another exchange or self-hosted wallet may need to provide information about the originator. Reported requirements include the person’s name, PAN or national identification information, country of residence and address.

For withdrawals, users may have to provide information about the beneficiary, including their name, country and location, as well as details about the destination exchange. Users may also need to identify whether the crypto is being transferred to a self-hosted wallet or a wallet operated by another virtual-asset service provider.

The changes do not represent a general ban on deposits or withdrawals. Instead, they increase the amount of transaction information that users may need to provide.

India’s Crypto Regulation Framework

India does not currently treat cryptocurrencies as legal tender. However, cryptocurrency businesses providing specified virtual-digital-asset services in India fall under the country’s anti-money-laundering framework.

The Finance Ministry says VDA service providers involved in activities such as crypto-to-fiat exchange, crypto transfers and custody are required to register with FIU-IND and comply with obligations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. These requirements apply to both offshore and domestic providers serving the Indian market.

This framework has become increasingly important as Indian regulators seek greater visibility into digital-asset transactions.

FIU-IND Takes Action Against 15 Crypto Platforms

On September 9, FIU-IND announced compliance action against 15 virtual digital asset service providers. The named platforms included Weex, Blofin, Bitunix, DigiFinex, Toobit, XT.com, WOO X, Pionex, ChangeNow, SimpleSwap, FixedFloat, WhiteBIT and others. Authorities also issued directions concerning removal of their applications or URLs from public access.

Binance was not included in this September 9 list. Its own India-related compliance requirements are therefore a separate development.

Binance and India’s Tax Environment

Indian cryptocurrency investors also continue to operate under the country’s existing virtual-digital-asset tax framework. Tax authorities have been increasing their focus on cryptocurrency transactions and the use of overseas exchanges.

Reuters reported earlier this year that Indian authorities were communicating with cryptocurrency exchanges to better understand evolving trading activity and improve tax compliance.

For Binance users in India, maintaining accurate records of purchases, sales, transfers and taxable transactions remains important.

Binance’s Previous Regulatory Action in India

Binance has a significant regulatory history in India. FIU-IND’s June 2024 order stated that Binance had provided VDA services to Indian clients without meeting statutory obligations under the PMLA. FIU-IND imposed a total penalty of ₹18.82 crore and issued compliance directions.

The subsequent changes to Binance’s India operations reflect the broader shift toward closer regulatory oversight of international cryptocurrency platforms.

What Indian Crypto Users Should Watch

Indian Binance users should pay particular attention to changes involving KYC, deposits, withdrawals, tax reporting and transaction documentation.

The regulatory environment can change as authorities develop new rules for virtual digital assets. The Finance Ministry has also warned that crypto products and NFTs remain unregulated and can involve significant financial risks, with limited regulatory recourse for losses.
