Crime in Portugal Today: Latest Police Arrests and Crime News

Crime in Portugal today: Portuguese police carried out several operations over the weekend involving suspected drug trafficking, weapons offences, assaults against police officers and irregular immigration. The latest incidents reported on September 27, 2026, include arrests in Lisbon, Sintra and the Setúbal district, while recent police investigations have also targeted organized theft and robbery.

Authorities continue to conduct crime-prevention operations in major urban areas, with the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) and Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) reporting several arrests and seizures.

Lisbon Crime Update: Seven People Detained at Nightclub

A police operation in Lisbon resulted in seven people being detained during a crime-prevention operation in the Estrela area early Sunday.

According to Portugal’s PSP, five people were detained over suspected irregular stay in Portugal. Another person was detained for allegedly possessing a prohibited automatic-opening knife, while a seventh person was detained for allegedly possessing a firearm in a prohibited location.

The operation also identified several regulatory violations at the nightclub where a Brazilian music event was taking place.

Authorities reported:

  • Seven people detained.
  • A firearm was seized.
  • A prohibited knife was seized.
  • Nitrous oxide was also seized.
  • The nightclub was temporarily suspended over hygiene-related violations.
  • Tax and regulatory authorities participated in the operation.

The PSP said the nightclub’s activity would remain suspended until the reported hygiene requirements were addressed.

Sintra Crime News: Seven Arrested After Police Assault

Another major crime update came from Mem Martins in Sintra, where seven people were detained after stones were allegedly thrown at police officers following a music festival.

According to the PSP, two police officers were struck by stones while officers were supporting the closure of the Festival Morabeza event. Police intervened to end the incident, resulting in seven detentions. Five of those detained were aged between 16 and 18.

Four additional people were identified in connection with the incident. Because some were minors, authorities prepared reports concerning the alleged unlawful acts and referred the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Drug Trafficking Case in Barreiro

In the Barreiro area of Setúbal district, the GNR reported the arrest of a man suspected of drug trafficking during a road-policing operation.

The incident occurred on the A33 near Coina. During a vehicle inspection, officers reportedly found 55 doses of MDMA. One occupant was detained on suspicion of drug trafficking, while another person was made an arguido in connection with suspected theft offences.

Police also reportedly found 15 clothing items, including bags and polo shirts, which were allegedly stolen from businesses at Freeport Lisboa Fashion Outlet.

Cash and equipment allegedly used to interfere with alarm systems were also seized.

Both men were released under a term-of-identity-and-residence measure while the investigation continues.

Recent Portugal Robbery Investigation

A separate GNR investigation recently resulted in five arrests over suspected residential robberies across several Portuguese districts.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 50, were detained in connection with alleged robberies and aggravated thefts involving homes in isolated villages and localities in Lisbon, Setúbal, Leiria, Beja and Santarém.

Investigators carried out 16 searches, including searches of homes and vehicles. Authorities reported seizing cash, ammunition, watches, vehicles, firearms, gold items and burglary tools.

The investigation had reportedly been underway for around six months. A woman was also made an arguida over suspected collaboration with the alleged criminal activity.

Portugal Crime Prevention Operations

Recent PSP reporting also shows continued enforcement activity across Portugal. During the Verão Seguro 2026 operation, more than 7,200 people were reportedly detained, including 1,559 for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police operations have also focused on counterfeit goods, immigration offences, drug trafficking, robbery and road safety.

Authorities continue to encourage residents and visitors to follow Portuguese law, remain alert in crowded areas and report suspected criminal activity to the appropriate authorities.

Latest Crime News in Portugal

The latest crime news in Portugal shows several different types of police activity rather than one single nationwide incident. Lisbon and Sintra have seen recent arrests connected with weapons and disorder, while the Setúbal district has recorded a drug-trafficking investigation.

Meanwhile, the GNR’s recent residential robbery investigation highlights continuing efforts to investigate organized property crime across several districts.

All suspects are subject to the Portuguese legal process, and allegations should not be treated as convictions unless established by a court.
