The weather conditions have also affected education. Schools have been ordered to remain closed in five districts as authorities attempt to reduce risks for students and staff.
Orange and yellow weather alerts have been issued for several districts, including Nainital, Tehri and Dehradun. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
For people living in mountainous areas, landslides can occur suddenly when prolonged rain weakens slopes. Roads can become blocked within minutes by rocks, mud and fallen trees, making emergency response more difficult.
The latest situation has also raised concerns for tourists visiting Uttarakhand during the monsoon season. Authorities generally advise travellers to check weather and road conditions before starting journeys into vulnerable hill areas.
