India’s crime landscape is seeing several major developments, ranging from murder investigations and counterfeit-currency seizures to action against organised cybercrime. Police and central investigative agencies are continuing operations across multiple states.

Key Accused Arrested in Lucknow Transporter Murder

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force has arrested Jai Kishan Sharma, a wanted accused in the abduction and murder of transporter Dhirendra Pratap Singh.

According to police, Singh disappeared on August 29 under suspicious circumstances. His bullet-riddled body was recovered the following day. Sharma had a reward of ₹50,000 for information leading to his arrest and was taken into custody in Lucknow’s Sushant Golf City area.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and killing, including the possible involvement of additional people.

Mumbai Police Seize Fake ₹500 Notes

Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch has seized counterfeit ₹500 currency notes with a face value of approximately ₹10.64 lakh during an operation in the city.

Police said the notes were high-quality counterfeits and that the accused allegedly sold them for twice their face value. The operation was conducted as part of an investigation into the circulation of fake currency.

Counterfeit currency remains a serious concern because it can undermine confidence in the financial system and facilitate other forms of criminal activity.

CBI Targets Digital Arrest Networks

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested five more people in connection with alleged digital-arrest syndicates operating across Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

Investigators said the accused allegedly used a malicious mobile application to gain access to victims’ phones and intercept banking-related SMS alerts. The arrests form part of a wider crackdown on organised cybercrime.

Digital-arrest scams typically involve criminals impersonating police, government officials or other authorities and threatening victims with fabricated criminal cases. Investigators are increasingly focusing on the technology and financial networks behind such operations.

Gujarat Police Face Questions

A separate case in Gujarat has attracted attention after police were accused of publicly tying and flogging a murder suspect. The station house officer described the incident as unusual, while the episode has raised questions about police conduct and due process.
