Meanwhile, a series of thefts from temples and prayer rooms in Sreemangal has caused concern among members of the local Hindu community.
According to local reporting, eight temples and prayer rooms in Bhunbir Union were targeted over two nights on September 3 and 5. Cash, utensils, musical instruments and religious items were reportedly stolen. Police have arrested one suspect in connection with the incidents, while some stolen property remains unrecovered.
The incidents have increased security concerns among local worshippers, particularly as preparations for upcoming Hindu religious activities continue.
Minority Rights Groups Report Wider Concerns
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has separately reported a broader pattern of alleged attacks against religious minorities. The organisation said it documented 257 incidents of communal violence during the first six months of 2026, including deaths, attacks on places of worship, vandalism, threats and alleged property-related disputes.
These figures represent the council’s own documentation and allegations rather than an independently verified government total.
