Four Family Members Found Dead
The victims were former Rangpur Zilla School teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, daughter Agami Chakraborty Prarthi and 12-year-old son Priyam Chakraborty. Police recovered their bodies from their home in the Machuapara area of Rangpur city on August 22.
Police subsequently arrested two young men, identified as Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das, in connection with the case.

CID Collects Forensic Evidence
The Criminal Investigation Department has collected 35 pieces of evidence from the crime scene and sent them to a forensic laboratory for DNA testing, according to Rangpur Metropolitan Police’s investigating officer.

Human-rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has called for a comprehensive and impartial investigation. Following a fact-finding visit to Rangpur, the organisation said there were discrepancies between the preliminary police account and information provided by relatives, residents and media reports.
ASK has urged investigators to examine physical, digital and forensic evidence carefully and determine the motive, chronology and identities of everyone involved.
One issue highlighted by the rights group concerns a phone call reportedly made from Pritilata Chakraborty’s phone to her sister during the early hours of August 21. ASK said this and other unanswered questions should be examined scientifically.
Calls for Judicial Inquiry
On September 7, the Democratic United Front organised a procession, human chain and rally in Rangpur demanding a judicial inquiry into the killings. Protesters argued that contradictory statements surrounding the case had weakened public confidence in the investigation.
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has also previously demanded a judicial investigation and stronger action to establish the full circumstances of the killings.
Government Promises Justice
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu recently said the perpetrators would be identified through a fair investigation. He expressed hope that investigators would be able to submit a charge sheet soon after completing the necessary forensic work.
