Tamil Nadu Business News Today: Latest Investment, Jobs & Industry Updates

Tamil Nadu business news today is focused on fresh investment plans, manufacturing expansion, global capability centres, logistics, technology and employment opportunities across the state. Chennai continues to attract multinational companies, while industrial activity is also expanding into other Tamil Nadu districts.

Here are the latest Tamil Nadu business news updates for October 3, 2026.

Vedanta Plans Major Copper Investment

One of the biggest developments in Tamil Nadu business news today is Vedanta Copper’s plan to invest approximately $2.3 billion over the next three to four years to expand its copper-production capacity.

The company is targeting production of more than one million tonnes by the end of the decade. Part of the plan involves a possible restart of its copper smelter on the Tamil Nadu coast, which has been non-operational for more than eight years.

According to the Economic Times, the company is considering around $250 million in spending to refurbish and restart the facility if the necessary approvals are obtained. The proposal remains subject to regulatory and legal processes.

CEAT Expands Chennai Manufacturing Plant

Tyre manufacturer CEAT has announced an expansion of its Chennai plant to increase production of premium tyres for passenger cars, SUVs, commercial vehicles and two-wheelers.

The company said the Chennai facility will strengthen its ability to serve both the Indian market and international markets, including Europe and North America. The plant is already one of the company’s largest manufacturing locations.

CEAT had invested ₹670 crore in a truck-bus radial production line at the facility in 2024, taking the company’s total investment in its Tamil Nadu plant to nearly ₹3,000 crore, according to the Financial Express.

The expansion highlights Tamil Nadu’s continuing importance to India’s automobile and auto-component manufacturing ecosystem.

Tamil Nadu Attracts Global Companies

Chennai is continuing to attract international companies looking to establish technology, research and business-service operations.

Recent agreements have included plans by companies such as Chubb and Nordex to establish technology centres, while the University of Western Australia has planned an international campus in Chennai. Earlier agreements were reported to have the potential to create approximately 2,920 jobs across global capability centres, manufacturing, research and education.

These developments add to Chennai’s established IT, automotive, financial-services and research ecosystem.

₹12,300 Crore Investment Commitments From UK Visit

Tamil Nadu secured investment commitments worth approximately ₹12,300 crore during a state delegation’s UK visit in September.

The proposed projects include advanced manufacturing, electrical equipment production and global capability centres. Samvardhana Motherson International and its European and UK joint-venture partners signed an MoU involving approximately ₹11,000 crore, with nearly 7,000 potential employment opportunities.

An additional agreement involving EY and a UK-headquartered telecommunications company was reported at around ₹1,000 crore and could create more than 2,000 high-value jobs in Chennai.

The announcements form part of Tamil Nadu’s efforts to attract export-oriented manufacturing and knowledge-intensive businesses.

Tamil Nadu’s Large Investment Pipeline

Tamil Nadu has also accumulated a significant investment pipeline during 2026. At the state’s investment conclave in August, officials announced ₹67,542 crore of fresh commitments across 97 projects, with more than one lakh potential employment opportunities.

The projects cover automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, life sciences, electronics, research and development and data centres.

Officials said the broader first-100-day investment commitments crossed ₹1 lakh crore, with projects spread across multiple districts rather than being concentrated only around Chennai.

Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing

Tamil Nadu is also seeking to strengthen its position in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

The state has announced plans for a semiconductor and electronics manufacturing park at Maduranthakam in Kancheepuram district. The SIPCOT-backed project is estimated to cost ₹175 crore and is intended to attract approximately ₹2,000 crore in investment while generating nearly 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The project forms part of a broader strategy to attract high-technology manufacturing and diversify the state’s industrial base.

Logistics and Warehousing Expansion

Industrial and logistics infrastructure is also receiving investment attention. Hiranandani Group-backed Greenbase has announced plans to invest ₹3,500 crore over five years to develop approximately nine million square feet of industrial, warehousing and logistics infrastructure.

Around five million square feet of the planned development is expected to be located in Tamil Nadu.

Growing logistics capacity could support manufacturing, e-commerce and export-oriented businesses across the state.
